Understanding the Real Issues in ADHD Beyond the Usual Assumptions

ADHD is often reduced to problems of attention, impulsivity, or motivation, “can’t focus, can’t sit still.” While these traits exist, they don’t always apply, and they are not always the main source of distress. Some common assumptions about ADHD actively get in the way of effective support. This talk challenges widespread misconceptions about ADHD and explores the less visible emotional difficulties that often sit beneath it: chronic sensitivity to rejection, emotional overwhelm, heightened anxiety, masking, and burnout. Rather than forcing individuals to fit general expectations, this presentation asks a different question: how can we work with the ADHD neurotype and focus on areas where meaningful change is both possible and beneficial?

The TRANCE Protocol: Inside the Emotional Engine of Addiction

Most people don’t come to me addicted to a substance. They come to me addicted to a state, relief, confidence, connection, calm, belonging… sometimes even joy. In The TRANCE Protocol, I share the framework I use to understand addiction as a state-based survival strategy, rooted in emotion, imagination, and nervous-system needs. Instead of getting stuck in labels or battling the behaviour, I take a step back and ask a different question: what is this substance or compulsion doing for you that your system can’t access safely on its own yet? Blending lived experience, frontline harm-reduction insight, and my clinical work as a hypnotherapist, I introduce an addictions map built around three keys that sit at the centre of sustainable recovery: authenticity, resilience, and vulnerability. I’ll show how I work with craving, compulsion, and emotional pain through trance, language, and imagery, while keeping self-regulation at the heart of the process, because without regulation, insight doesn’t land and change doesn’t hold. When Animals Become Co-Facilitators

What happens when an animal becomes more than a comforting presence in a hypnotherapy session — and begins to actively participate in the process? In this presentation, Elise Hittinger introduces an integrative approach in which animals function as co-facilitators in hypnotherapy. Drawing from real session experiences, she explores three layers of this work: the physical participation of animals, intuitive and energetic communication with the animal, and the ways an animal’s presence supports the client’s subconscious in moving through fear, resistance, and performance blocks. Participants will gain insight into how animals can mirror internal states, interrupt cognitive defenses, and support access to safety, trust, and embodied awareness.
